Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Rachel?
Hello, I am so happy you took the time to learn a little more about me! I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, Lucas, and 3 beautiful children, Mateo, Joseph, and Nathan. Together we also pastor a church here in West Palm Beach, FL.
It is so important to have a good support system, and I am so thankful that I have my church and home family at my side. It truly does take a village, and there are so many wonderful people that have made a great impact in my life.
My passion for maternal-newborn health comes from my 10 years of experience as a postpartum nurse. Even in nursing school, I always had my heart set on becoming a nurse in the maternity field.
I have special training in NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), antepartum, pediatrics, as well as the newborn nursery.
In addition to my years of hospital experience, I also am an IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant), and a member of both the state and national chapters of the United States Lactation Consultant Association.
What is an IBCLC?
An International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) has the highest lactation certification available worldwide. With less than 30,000 consultants in the world, you can trust that you are in the best hands possible.
Although many people can claim to be a "Lactation Consultant", an IBCLC is considered an expert in the field. They have extensive experience with a wide variety of breastfeeding situations.
An IBCLC can assist mothers and their families even in the midst of high-risk situations and difficulties. They also have a code of ethics and operate according to their scope of practice.
Basically, an IBCLC is the "gold standard" of lactation support. They are who you want to go to when any breastfeeding issues arise.
What type of services do you provide?
As a mother, nurse, childbirth educator, and lactation consultant, I offer a wide variety of resources for all families.
Prenatally, I can help parents prepare for delivery via childbirth education, baby registry preparation, assistance with a birth plan, and much more.
Postpartum sessions vary depending on the situation of each family. I can assist mom by giving tips to increase milk supply, decreasing pain while nursing, managing mastitis/engorgement, and even teaching coping skills for stress and anxiety.
Newborn consultations can assist a baby with a poor latch, poor weight gain, jaundice/hyperbilirubinemia, gas pain, and even sleep issues.
My sessions are completely individualized for each family and their needs. As such, each visit is different. Either way, by the end of our session you will enjoy a new level of confidence and your home will be filled with the peace that you and your baby deserve.
Are your consultations covered by insurance?
I am so pleased to announce that most insurances will cover my services!
Covered plans include Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Florida Blue, United, Aetna, Pilgrim, and much more. If your plan is not covered, I can work with you to provide you with the documents you need for insurance reimbursement.
To quickly get approved:
1) Schedule your visit with me online or via phone at (561) 320-4338
2) Fill out the required insurance pre-authorization form
3) You will receive confirmation of coverage within hours of submission
4) If there is a problem with coverage we will come up with a plan together to make sure you get the support that you deserve. Discounted self-pay rates and insurance reimbursement forms are also available if needed.
How much do your services cost?
I will always be very open about the cost of your investment and what services are included. Many insurance plans (Cigna, BCBS, Florida Blue, etc) cover my prenatal and newborn services.
Self pay virtual consultations are $100 for one hour and you will also receive a copy of our visit. This is a great option for prenatal classes, pump sizing, follow up discussions, and simple breastfeeding assessments.
Self-pay home consultations start at $225 for an hour. These include a full head to toe on both mom and baby.
I also have additional online classes that you can sign up for.
*Special note* prenatal and lactation consultations are covered by most insurance plans! You will receive an insurance authorization once you book your time slot for the first visit. You can also call me at (561) 320-4338 for more information.
What should I expect during our visit?
I understand that a solid education can really change lives. That is why a consultation is an investment that will benefit both you and your baby for a lifetime.
Home visits include a full head to toe on mom and baby. We will observe at least one feeding, pumping session, and bottle-feed (depending on feeding choice). Other friends and family members are welcome to join in!
A virtual visit is an affordable option for families of all budgets. Telehealth visits always start with discussion followed by assessment of possible issues. We then create an individualized plan of care together.
All patients will have access to all of your electronic health records on our convenient patient portal! Also, upon request I will fax our visit summary to the Pediatrician and OB.
How do I schedule a consultation?
As a parent, I know how important it is to make sure your child is safe and healthy. Because of this, I am available online and in-person to assist you during this important time.
You may schedule a consultation by calling/texting me at (561) 320-4338, emailing me at mommydidyouknow@gmail.com or booking online on the "consultations" tab of the main menu.
Once an appointment is booked, I will send the insurance authorization to see how many consultations you qualify for.
Those who are uninsured or not covered will receive a discounted "self-pay" rate.
